by Daniel G. Amen
Amazon Price: $10.31
Customer Review: My spouse who has ADD and I now know that it is a real medical condition of the brain, how it is diagnosed, and specific treatments to deal with it including appropriate drugs, amino acids, exercise and nutrition, and coaching. The book includes a comprehensive survey that helped us determine which of the six type of ADD we are dealing with. Pictures of brain scans show how the brain malfunctions during concentration and in general. It was very gratifying to read in detail the causes and available treatments. Dr. Amen emphasizes that steps should be taken to alleviate the symptoms in order to stop the havoc wreaked on marriages and families.

Customer Review: This is a great professional reference for everyday practice for all clinicians. I used it also for supplementation in my studies for the PANRE and just found-out the I passed with great results today. It is more simply worded than Harrison's and still comprises all necessary components of disease processes and criticals of diagnosis, etc....

by Kate Kelly, Peggy Ramundo
Amazon Price: $10.88
Customer Review: this book is nothing but useless fillers. There might be a few acceptable solutions offered somewhere at the end, but you have to look for them hard, because every more or less valuable thought is wrapped into pages and pages of meaningless and boring banalities. In addition to countless personal stories, the book will offer you such "priceless" suggestions like to check the costs of your treatment in case if you're uninsured (wow. thanks!) Imagine 440 pages of that.

Customer Review: I was able to improve my son's asthma within a few weeks of implementing these steps, after a year of failed medical interventions. Thanks so much!

Customer Review: Our consulting psychiatrist recommended this book as the best on the market for those with bipolar disorder and their families. And I was not disappointed; it is an excellent resource for my work! Everyone suffering from this disorder should have a copy and share it with their families. There is so much helpful and practical information.

Customer Review: Overall this book is very good, and I learned quite a bit from it. My only complaint (and the reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5) is that there are numerous places throughout the book which recommend that you "seek medical attention" for serious conditions ... but how exactly am I supposed to do that "where there is no doctor"?
But regardless, I'd still recommend it as a good backcountry first-aid manual.

Customer Review: This excellently written, highly readable account explains how the complex interplay of egos, politics, big money, intellectual bias, hubris, and selective rejection of pertinent evidence in the refereed medical literature have denied many Lyme disease patients timely and accurate diagnosis and prompt, appropriate treatment. The majority of the medical community appears to be appallingly misinformed about this complex spirochetal infection and their widespread collective ignorance has prolonged many patients' suffering and often, financial hardship. The net result is a major public health problem that threatens to become both larger and more widespread as our climate warms, deer and tick populations multiply, and state and federal agencies misunderstand and hence, underestimate the serious medical implications of misdiagnosed and untreated Lyme.

Customer Review: This is an important book for anyone who has or suspects they have Lyme's Disease. Easy to understand and full of information. It has a very helpful section on vitamins and foods that are helpful in conquering Lyme's Disease. It has a medical basis and a holistic approach. This makes sense to me.

by Thomas Graboys, Peter Zheutlin
Amazon Price: $13.57
Customer Review: By now what might be called the deadly-disease memoir is a standard literary genre: the successful, happy man or woman laid low by a fatal ailment, soldiering on against all odds. Thomas Graboys' new book about living with Parkinson's disease silences cynicism about yet another entry into the sweepstakes. Besides being a man of much more than average gifts, material wealth, looks and success, he writes from the perspective of someone whose entire identity was shaped by being a medical doctor, a brilliant cardiologist, someone whose life's work was to take care of others. All this is now lost to him and he admits, with frequently bruising candor, the emotional cost to him and his family.
Dr. Graboys' particular case of Parkinson's, as he explains, involves actual dementia, and although the book was written with the aid of a co-author, nevertheless the signs of mental difficulty are evident in the short-windedness and occasional repetitiveness of the writing. Several dozen pages are devoted not to Graboys' own writing but to passages contributed by his siblings, his children and their in-laws, passages the author did not screen in advance of their inclusion. What would be defects in another book here are in themselves touching, clear evidence of the author's ongoing struggle to maintain some sense of self-worth and productivity. He does not spare himself, dissecting in painful detail the ravages his progressive disease, and his occasional denial of its seriousness,...
